EXPERIENCE

 

 

 

 

 

GIS Specialist: Federal Emergency Management Agency, Nashville, TN (2003).

Responsibilities include data analysis, data conversion, map design, and database management/design in regards to disaster management and hazard mitigation. Position is as a Disaster Assistance Employee (DAE - contract) due to the tornados and flooding across the state.

Sample work:

     Prepared maps of FEMA Q3 Flood Zones overlaying TN DOQQs to show the extent of the hazard in the event of a 100 or 500 year flood.

     Provided Census 2000 demographic analysis of poverty, ethnic diversity, median income, and senior population at the Tract, Block Group, and Block level for mitigation purposes.

     Used storm event data from NOAA and other sources to map tornado paths across the state and historical storm events for mitigation. 

      Developed an Access database for an eight state region to automate the acquisition of census data for each disaster. Designed the form and coded the application so that the Jurisdictional Profile project will become an automated procedure and eliminate days of research and preparation for each disaster.                                                   

GIS Specialist: Southern GIS / Alabama Power Company, Birmingham, AL (1999-2001).

Final responsibilities included data analysis, image processing, database management, project management, proposal writing, data conversion, mapping, quality assessment, and programming. Major day to day activities included working hands on with client to ensure meeting of project costs and deadlines. Work was coordinated primarily with Transmission, Generation and Acquisition departments for both Alabama Power and Georgia Power.

Sample work:

     Assisted in implementation of ArcPad for field workers within Transmission Department.

     Provided site location analysis for Marketing Department in an effort to attract major businesses to the state such as Honda.

     Worked with Alabama Forestry Commission to create infestation layer for the Southern Pine Beetle project.

     Buffer Analysis for Georgia Power to eliminate excess payment offices.

GIS Technician: Contract with Southern GIS / Alabama Power Company, Birmingham, AL (1999).

Final responsibilities included data conversion, mapping, and data analysis.

Sample work:

     Prepared hydro inundation layers for analysis in the event of 100 or 500 year floods below power company reservoirs.

     Conversion of landbase features from CAD drawings into GIS for SEGIS project.

     Mapping for Georgia Power Company using scanned TIFFs to create up-to-date service territories for power providers for the state.  

GIS Intern: East Alabama Regional Planning & Development Commission, Anniston, AL (1998).

     Performed a variety of GIS tasks including data conversion and database editing.

     Fieldwork included housing condition assessments and surveying.

Assistant General Manager: Jim N’ Nick’s Bar-B-Q, Destin, FL  (2002-2003).

Went back to school to gain programming experience.                                       

     Promoted twice within one year.

     Opened the new franchise at Sandestin Golf & Beach Resort in Destin, FL.

     Responsible for supervision of 30 employees.

     Handled all scheduling, purchasing for inventory purposes, and daily deposits.
